I had planned to put winter pictures on my blog for November but had a change of heart because the weatherman recently said that we were in for a long and extremely cold season. I debated on which topic I would choose for this writing and came up with the Bahamas. I have been to the Bahamas several times, over the years, and I have seen it change greatly. I don't know if progress is always advantageous. The pictures that I am exhibiting this month were taken in February of 1986 while I was visiting the old Paradise Island Resort. This little casino had everything but shortly there-after it was demolished and replaced with the Atlantis; a casino that would be considered mammoth even in Vegas.
I could walk from the casino, via the bridge, into downtown Nassau and roam around with camera and film. I basically wanted to shoot maritime photos but school was in and there were children everywhere. Many of the fish and fruit vendors under the Paradise Island bridge had their children helping them. Everyone I met was friendly and extremely polite. I might add though, the largest rats I have ever see in my travels were down by the harbor and probably came in on the ships.
I have been to the immense and beautiful Atlantis in recent times but it doesn't have the romantic essence of that little casino over the bridge and Nassau itself has taken on a big city aura but it contiues to be a superb destination to flee the snow.

Thanks for the great photography. My son-in-law's father lives and works in the Bahama's, and this gives a window into what it's like, since I haven't been there.
