PORTUGAL -- a great destination

Carrying supplies on your head in the Arab district of Lisbon
When I chose Portugal for a photographic destination, I more or less, threw a dart at the world map. I had made a superb choice because the country is beautiful and the people are extremely friendly. I also, didn't have a difficult time picking up enough of the language to understand what was happening and even order meals in the fantastic restaurants and hotel dining rooms. I have nothing against my own kind but when I travel abroad I like to stay with the natives because that is what I go for ---- I can stay with Americans anywhere in the world. I love doing street photography and European cities are superb for unlimited subject matter, but I did have one problem. When I went out with my large Nikon SLR, I was constantly harassed by locals trying to sell me everything from watches to gold jewelry and it was very frustrating. I asked the manager of the hotel that I was staying at about the problem and he said that my expensive camera was a give-away. He said that if I had a small, tourist camera to use, no one would bother me, and I did. I went out the next day with a point and shoot camera and no one approached me, at all. Portugal is awesome and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a safe and fun country to visit. I landed there on Christmas Eve and left shortly after the New Year but the weather was fantastic ----- about 70 degrees. I rate Portugal very high on my list of must go tos. I hope you enjoy the prints that I have included in this blog and will leave a short comment at the bottom of the page. Thanks for looking in and good luck in your own personal photo endeavors.
