Autumn is my favorite season, as it is with most photographers. The vibrant color and pleasant weather are definite criterion for gathering fantastic images and we all have our awesome places to shoot. My special places are the Lake Superior shoreline in Michigan and the Appalachian region of North Carolina but this year I was unable to go to either, so I did the next best thing. I decided to explore a few locations that were in my own county and close to home. The parks and recreation areas are far less inhabited, during the week at this time of year, so setting up a tripod and capturing an uncluttered image is usually never a problem. I went out on several different days with lighting conditions that varied from subdued to full sun. A hand held meter and a polarizing filter, for your lens, are necessary equipment for a satisfying day in the field. I enjoyed using my cameras locally but I have to admit that I did thoroughly miss wandering the outback of my usual spots. Winter is closing in on us, however; that brings another exciting season for photographers.
