Winter Places in the Caribbean

Since the winter in the northern United States has kicked off with a punch I thought it might be nice to venture down to the Caribbean and go cruising. I; like most photographers was mildly skeptical about boarding a ship to go photograph hunting because I feared I would be deck bound for the duration of the trip. I was so wrong and thanks to my daughter I had one of the best times of my life and still captured a wealth of pictures, both on and off of the ship.. Prior to boarding your cruise you are able to book land excursions to remote places of interest or you can venture off on your own.The only snag I ever had was on our second cruise to Cancun just after  a hurricane. I had secured a trip to the Mayan Ruins and it had to be cancelled but my money was refunded and we toured a rain forest in Jamaica instead. The pictures that I have included in this blog are from my first cruise to the western Caribbean and all of the images were taken with a Sony point-and-shoot camera because I wanted to see just how good they were. I was impressed with the results but did take a large Nikon slr on my second sailing to the eastern Caribbean. All of the pictures were shot in JPEG which I normally don't do as my preference is the RAW format, so that I have full adjustments in Photoshop. The little cameras do a fine job as they are lighter and don't have a mirror  so you are able to maintain focus at lower shutter speeds. You are limited to JPEG and rather short battery life but then the priority was having a fantastic vacation with my fantastic daughter.

Please check out these images and let me know what you think. Next month I will continue my winter escape posts with a blog on southern Florida. Thanks for looking in.
