Lately; I have been experimenting with fine-art, exhibition quality, inkjet paper with the hopes of giving my black and white prints the look and feel of traditional darkroom images. I have found two that I am quite impressed with and both have a Baryta fiber base with a soft gloss finish. The papers are Baryta Photographique by Canson and Signature Exhibition Fiber by Epson. I have been using Epson Ultra Premium Matte paper for my color and I am very pleased with the results, however; it is not a good choice for black and white as it muddies the middle tones and creates an extremely flat, dull print. I chose the soft gloss Baryta paper for black and white as it enhances the contrast and exhibits more separation and latitude in the grey scale. Photographic paper choice is something that all of us search for to make our finished prints stand out and can mean the difference between a nice image and a spectacular image. I will let you know what my final decision is in my next blog and please tell me what your thoughts are on this subject. Thanks for looking in and all comments regarding my blog ( pro or con ) are greatly appreciated.
