FACES from the PAST

As a photographer, I have encountered numerous fascinating people over my many years of wandering about with a camera. Although; my forte is landscape art, my attention is often moved by a person that I can't resist shooting --- with a camera, of course.  However; I rarely show these images because I do not consider record shots to be portraiture. I made these candid prints because I found the individuals to be unique. I shot most of my portraits on black and white film but a few were taken in color and later transposed to black and white.  I hope you see what I saw in these captured moments of interesting people, as viewed on the ground glass screen of my camera. I plan to post more of these in the future.

1. The first portrait is of a young man wearing a sandwich board for advertising a business in Nassau. I was taken by the power of his eyes. I shot this image in 1987.
2. This image of a biker was shot in Detroit in 1973
3. This portrait of a Cree Indian boy was taken in northern Ontario in 1975
4. I photographed this fantastic musician in Detroit, in the summer of 2003, while he was performing.
5. My close friend, Frank, who passed away in 2014, was taken by this dog that kept following us.         We crossed paths with this friendly stray in northern Ontario in June of 1975.
6. This " Old Salt " was a fixture at the  Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, and a truly great person
to converse with. This image was taken in 2003.
7. I came across this young girl in Quebec City. She was sitting alone on the entry stairs of a large
and seemed lost from the world around her.
8. I encountered the man from India in Stratford, Ontario in 1982. He is one of the most interesting
people that I have ever met. He said that his father was 102 at the time.
