Autumn is my favorite season and for many great reasons. As a landscape photographer it's the lure of the blazing color, but also it's the warm days and cool nights, the apple cider and the smell of a wood fire. I know there are some folks who look on autumn as a prelude to cold, snow and gloom but for me this short time slot is an opportunity to gather some rewarding images. The summer blahs of green have been transformed into vibrant color and the camera buffs, as well as the tourists arrive in droves to capture the scenery at it's best. The locals in many areas refer to the multitude as, " Leafers." I have watched as the shoulders of the road are lined bumper to bumper with parked cars while the occupants roam the fields with everything from an I-phone to a tablet --- and yes; some still carry a point and shoot camera.
Since I don't have any autumn pictures for 2016 yet, I decided to post some of my work from the past couple of years. I usually travel light when hiking the fields because it's awkward to be weighted down and I find a wide-angle zoom and a polarizing filter suffice for my goals. The images presented were taken in Virginia, North Carolina and the upper peninsula of Michigan. The last three pictures on the list were taken in Michigan, on film, while the remainder were shot with a digital SLR. I hope that I have given you some enticement to get out with whatever photographic device you have in September and October. I also hope you enjoy my pictures and will leave a brief comment. Thanks for looking in.
