Back to Appalachia

In mid December I made another trip to Appalachia. I have many reasons for returning to this area and one is that it is a special and favorite place to get pictures. I was hoping to get some great snow shots but we had none the entire time I was there, however; it was very cold. One morning I drove to the summit of Grandfather Mountain but I only stayed long enough to take a few images as the bitter, cold wind was piercing and the mist was heavy. It was also difficult to stand still as the wind was approaching forty miles an hour. I was actually surprised by the weather at the top because it had been quite calm at the base of the mountain. I had spent a few minutes talking with a very nice lady at the ticket booth, who was also a photographer. They usually don't permit the summit drive when the weather is bad, since it is a mile up, so I do consider myself lucky for the opportunity. Later; I found most of my photo ops on the back roads and in the general store. I have put up numerous pictures, in the past, of my trips to Appalachia but I can always find something that piques my interest with each visit in any season. I hope you enjoy the images that I am posting this month and might leave a brief comment: pro or con. Thanks for looking in.
